In Loving Memory of Cole Scholey & Kelly Kemp
A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded Saturday morning in Perry Township, leaving two families mourning unimaginable loss after a devastating head-on collision along U.S. Route 62 near mile post 11.
Today, we remember and honor the lives of Cole Scholey, 21, of Beach City, and Kelly Kemp, 56, of Massillon, whose lives were tragically taken far too soon in this terrible accident.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Canton Post responded to the scene around 7:16 a.m. on May 16. Investigators reported that a 2019 Ford Ranger driven by Cole Scholey was traveling northbound when it crossed left of center and collided head-on with a southbound 2021 Honda Odyssey driven by Kelly Kemp.
Cole was transported by Perry Township Fire Department to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Kelly tragically passed away at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the Honda was also seriously injured and transported to Aultman Hospital, leaving an entire community praying for healing and recovery.
The sudden loss of two lives in a single moment is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life truly is. Families who woke up expecting an ordinary Saturday morning are now facing grief, heartbreak, and an emptiness that words cannot fully describe.
Cole Scholey was only 21 years old, with so much life still ahead of him — dreams yet to be fulfilled, memories yet to be made, and milestones yet to be reached. Those who knew him will forever remember his presence, his energy, and the impact he had on the people around him.
Kelly Kemp, 56, leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and memories that will continue to live on through family and friends. Her life mattered deeply to those fortunate enough to know her, and her absence will be felt beyond measure.
As investigators continue working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash, our focus today remains on the lives lost and the loved ones left grieving in the aftermath of this devastating event.
We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the Scholey and Kemp families during this painful time. No words can erase the sorrow they are carrying, but we hope they find comfort in the love and support surrounding them.
We also keep the injured juvenile passenger in our prayers, asking for strength, healing, and recovery in the difficult days ahead.
Our gratitude goes out to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Massillon Police Department, Perry Township Police Department, Perry Township Fire Department, Erie Valley Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Stark County Coroner’s Office, Tracer’s Towing, and all first responders who worked tirelessly at the scene and assisted those involved during such a tragic situation.
May the memories of Cole Scholey and Kelly Kemp forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them. Though their lives ended too soon, their impact will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Cole and Kelly. You will always be remembered and deeply missed. 🕊️💔
Please continue to keep the families, the injured child, and all those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.
