In Loving Memory of Alana Duck

In Loving Memory of Alana Duck

Jackson, Mississippi — The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 19-year-old Alana Duck, a young woman whose life was tragically taken in a act of violence incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 17, in the 5100 block of I-55 North.

According to the Jackson Police Department, officers were dispatched around 1 a.m. following reports of gunfire in the area near The Hideaway parking lot. What began as a gathering quickly escalated into a violent confrontation involving multiple individuals. During the altercation, shots were fired, leaving several people injured and claiming the life of a young woman who, by all accounts, still had her future ahead of her.

When officers arrived, they discovered a black Honda Accord at the scene with Alana inside. She had sustained a gunshot wound and, despite emergency response efforts, was later pronounced deceased. Two additional individuals were also injured and transported to nearby hospitals for medical care. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active as they work to determine exactly what led to the deadly exchange.

For Alana’s family, friends, and loved ones, the news has left an unfillable void. At just 19 years old, she was stepping into adulthood, building dreams, and shaping a life that has now been painfully interrupted. Those who knew her describe her as a daughter, a friend, and a bright presence whose memory will continue to live on through the people she touched.

In moments like these, words often fall short of the grief carried by a family left behind. The shock of sudden loss is compounded by the circumstances surrounding it, leaving a community searching for answers and justice. What remains, however, is the legacy of a young life that mattered deeply.

Alana Duck’s name now joins a growing list of young lives lost too soon to senseless violence. Her passing is not only a private tragedy for her loved ones but also a reminder of the urgent need for peace, understanding, and accountability in the community.

Friends and family have begun sharing tributes and memories, holding tightly to the moments they had with her. In their grief, they remember her laughter, her presence, and the promise of what she could have become. While her life ended far too early, the impact she made in her 19 years will not be forgotten.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation by contacting the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960-1604 or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-TIPS (8477).

As Jackson continues to process this tragedy, Alana Duck is remembered not for the circumstances of her passing, but for the life she lived—a life cherished by those who knew and loved her, and a life gone too soon.
